The team develops the foundational capabilities that help businesses collect payments across diverse customer relationships, payment methods, and markets, while adapting intelligently when collection does not go as planned.</p> <h2><strong>What you'll do</strong></h2> <p>As the engineering manager for Billing Collections, you’ll own the operational and technical direction of the platforms that help Stripe users collect revenue reliably. You’ll lead the team that builds flexible, intelligent collection experiences that improve payment success, support customers through changing circumstances, and help businesses reduce unpaid balances and accelerate cash flow. You’ll shape the team as it expands to support increasingly sophisticated business models and global payment needs while working backwards from internal and external customers.</p> <h3><strong>Responsibilities</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Lead a team responsible for the core architecture needed to enable billing collection</li> <li>Own the technical strategy and roadmap for billing collection</li> <li>Drive operational excellence across billing infrastructure systems</li> <li>Hire and develop engineers as the team expands into new scope</li> <li>Partner with stakeholders across organizations to deliver billing solutions</li> <li>Work backwards from internal and external customer needs to define priorities and scope</li> <li>Define and uphold engineering standards across a team owning business-critical billing infrastructure</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Who you are</strong></h2> <p>We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.</p> <h3><strong>Minimum requirements</strong></h3> <ul> <li>4+ years of engineering management experience, directly managing and growing teams of 5+ engineers focused on building and shipping products at scale</li> <li>8+ years of full-time software development experience</li> <li>Track record of leading engineering teams responsible for high-traffic, low-latency, and extensible systems</li> <li>Deep user empathy with a history of working backwards from internal and external customer needs</li> <li>Proven ability to drive rigorous decision-making and build strong partnerships across teams</li> <li>Ability to handle ambiguity, creatively solve complex challenges, and execute on competing high-impact priorities</li> <li>Demonstrated focus on system reliability, operational health, and incident response</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Preferred qualifications</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Experience building and leading distributed teams across multiple locations and time zones</li> <li>Track record of delivering shared infrastructure across multiple business units</li> <li>Background in billing, metering, or large-scale distributed systems</li> <li>Experience with payment mandates, recurring payment authorization, or related payment infrastructure</li> </ul>
