This is a traveling role for journeyman linemen and substation electricians — you will mobilize with project teams to active construction sites, build and energize 69 kV and above substation and TVA interconnect facilities, and move with the work as new sites come online.

You will install, land, and switch high-voltage yard equipment and support first energization of the utility interconnect. This is a construction and commissioning role: build new high-voltage infrastructure from drawings and turn it over. It is not a facilities-maintenance or operating-plant role.

This is an hourly position with overtime. Expect 80% or more travel on a rotation, with per diem.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Travel with internal construction and electrical teams to project sites to install, land, and test high-voltage substation equipment at 69 kV and above, including breakers, disconnects, CTs/PTs, buswork, structures, HV-side transformer connections, and TVA interconnect facilities.

Perform switching, isolation, grounding, and restoration under approved switching orders and clearances (OSHA 1910.269).

Install high-voltage conductor, jumpers, terminations, and grounding; support aerial and yard work.

Support first energization and commissioning of the high-voltage yard.

Read and interpret substation one-lines, physical drawings, and switching procedures; produce as-builts and test records.

Ensure compliance with NESC, NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910.269, and SpaceXAI safety and quality standards, including switching, clearance, LOTO, and arc-flash protocols.

Collaborate with contractors, engineers, the utility, and operations teams to deliver projects on time with zero incidents.

Participate in constructability reviews and provide field feedback to improve designs.

Mobilize quickly between project locations as construction phases and priorities shift.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

5+ years as a journeyman lineman or substation electrician on systems 69 kV and above (TVA, investor-owned utility, generation, or industrial high-voltage yard).

Journey-level lineman card (IBEW/NECA or equivalent utility journeyman lineman) or documented substation electrician qualification.

Demonstrated switching and clearance work on high-voltage equipment under OSHA 1910.269.

Ability to read substation one-lines, physical drawings, and switching orders.

Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and high-voltage switching and clearance.

Ability to climb structures, work at height in an outdoor yard in all weather, lift 50+ lbs, and wear high-voltage PPE.

Hourly position with overtime; willingness to work nights, weekends, and extended shifts during construction and energization.

Ability and willingness to travel 80% or more on a construction rotation; per diem and/or housing provided while on site.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

TVA or other utility interconnect construction at 69 kV and above.

Rubber-glove / live-line qualification.

Commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Substation construction experience including structures, bus, jumpers, and grounding in an energized-adjacent yard.

OSHA 30 or equivalent construction safety training in addition to NFPA 70E and OSHA 1910.269.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; frequent overtime and weekend support is required.

Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights.

Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, noise, heat, cold, and rain.

Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment.

Stand: up to 6 hours per day.

Sit: up to 3 hours per day.

Push/Pull: up to 75 lbs. (unassisted) 1–2 hours per day.

Overhead reach: up to 3 hours per day.

Walk: up to 3 hours per day.

Lift/Carry: up to 50 lbs.
